APRIL 2016 CURRENT AFFAIRS ( PART-2 )

  • India’s First Semi-High Speed Train Gatimaan Express was flagged off between New Delhi and Agra.
  • Scientists have discovered a rare triple-star system named KELT-4Ab with a gas giant planet similar in size to Jupiter. Known planets with three stars appearing in their sky are rare and the new discovery is just the fourth and the closest one yet.
  • The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has constituted high-level committee to suggest ways to tighten security along India-Pakistan border. The committee will be headed by former Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the Stand-up India scheme aimed at providing credit to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and women borrowers in the non-farm sector.
  • Every year World Health Day is being observed on 7 April to disseminate knowledge and awareness about human health. 2016 theme: “Beat Diabetes”.
  • Public Sector Power equipment manufacturer Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has commissioned a season-wise tiltable canal top solar PV plant at Bhimavaram, Andhra Pradesh.
  • Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Radha Mohan Singh laid the foundation stone of Haryana State University of Horticultural Sciences at Karnal.
  • A bronze bust of ancient Indian mathematician and astronomer Aryabhatta was unveiled at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France.
  • The International Conference on Zero was held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France. It shared the rich and remarkable history of mathematics.
  • The East Coast Railway Zone headquartered in Bhubaneswar (Odisha) has emerged as largest Freight Loading Railway Zone the country in year 2015-16 in terms of revenue loading performance.
