  • The three-day Suhi fair, which started on Sunday, culminated on the premises of a palanquin-shaped Suhi temple, located on a hillock above Chamba town. The fair reflects the sacrifice by rulers of erstwhile states. It may be recalled that in order to honour the supreme sacrifice made by queen Sunayana, popularly known as Rani Suhi, a temple was constructed at the site known as the Suhi Mata temple and an annual congregation takes place in April every year.
  • A committee constituted by the National Green Tribunal to study violations in various hotel and commercial constructions in the Kasauli Development area inspected such buildings and took stock of the violations. The committee comprises PC Dhiman, Additional Chief Secretary; Vijay Yadav, an official of the Central Pollution Control Board; DK Sharma, an engineer from the Chandigarh Engineering College, and an official from the State Pollution Control Board.
  • Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Bath Spa University (UK) to promote academic wellbeing. As per the MoU, the two universities would encourage academic co-operation in the disciplines studied at the institutions besides joint research activity and exchange of information and material and exchange/visit of faculty staff.
  • An all-time high allocation of Rs 838 crore has been made for Himachal under the Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) for 2016-17, an increase of Rs 173 crore over last year.
