5 April 2016 - Himachal Pradesh Current Events

  • The Central Water Commission (CWC) has identified four villages in Himachal Pradesh to launch a pilot project for developing water security models that are compatible with local geographic, climatic and socio-economic parameters. The villages are Sunam and Jhooling in Lahaul and Spiti district, Puh town and Thanang in Kinnaur district. These villages experience heavy snow during winters. The project is part of the Jal Kranti Yojana launched by the Ministry of Water Resources to consolidate water conservation and management through mobilization of local populace and grassroots-level institutions.
  • Himachal Pradesh Panchayati Raj (Amendment Bill) 2016 was passed in the assembly. The amendment in the Himachal Pradesh Panchayati Raj Act will reduce the minimum quorum for the general meeting of the Gram Sabha from one third to fourth as decision on development works were being delayed for want of quorum. Other bills passed in the assembly are Himachal Pradesh Tax on Entry of Goods into Local Area (Amendment) Bill 2016 and Himachal Pradesh Protection of Interest of Depositors (In Financial Establishments) Amendment Bill, 2016.
  • The book ‘The Himalayan Bond’ based on the sacred relationship between man and the environment was presented to Governor Acharya Devvrat by its author Puran Bhardwaj.
  • The Hamirpur district has topped in soil health certification in the country and will get the national award for the achievement. Hamirpur district had completed 100 per cent soil sampling of the farm lands of the district. The national award for soil health certification will be given by the Prime Minister on the National Civil Services Day on April 21 in New Delhi. All farmers would be given soil health cards in June so that they could decide for the next crops.
